This turkey automatically bastes itself!
Prepare your turkey according to instructions on package (usually 350˚ F, 1 hour for each 4 pounds of turkey plus an additional 30 minutes if your bird is stuffed), with the following exception: place a coffee percolator in the roasting pan.
Prior to putting the percolator into the pan, you should bend the stem so that it is curved.
Place it in the roasting pan (near the neck of the bird) so that as the bird cooks, juices will flow over the bird. You may experiment with the percolator by removing it from the pan and bending it and replacing it so the position of the stem is pointing towards the top of the bird.
For best results, put a layer of carrots submerged in 1 inch of water on bottom of roasting pan, place turkey in pan and add yams around the perimeter of the base of the turkey. The percolator should be touching the bottom of the roasting pan. If this results in the food being stacked to high for the lid, you can tightly cover it with aluminum foil. You may also use an aluminum pie plate upside down on top of the turkey between the food and the foil for more secure results.
