Mississippi is a land with a past and a future.  Some of the fiercest battles of the Civil War were fought in Mississippi.  Today you can tour battlefields monuments and cemeteries, or see reenactments throughout the year.  African-Americans have traveled a long journey in Mississippi, overcoming oppression with courage and dignity.  The Old Capitol Historical Museum and the Smith Robertson Museum and Cultural Center  feature exhibits of the Civil Rights Movement and African-American history and art. 

The Mississippi Delta is the birthplace of jazz, rock and roll, country, gospel, and rhythm and blues.  Elvis Presley, B. B. King, Robert Johnson, Son Thomas, Muddy Waters, Charley Patton all called Mississippi home.  Other notable

Mississippians are Oprah Winfrey, Tennessee Williams, Jim Henson, Faith Hill, Brett Favre, and Morgan Freeman.

Golfers can enjoy the game in any season thanks to Mississippi’s mild weather.

Cruise the Mississippi on a riverboat queen; go museum hopping in Jackson and Vicksburg, bike the Natchez Trace, try your luck in the casinos, or simply wiggle your toes in the sand along the Gulf of Mexico.

Mississippi’s climate ranges from January lows of 50°F to summer highs in the 90’s.  Sunscreen is recommended year round.
