Kentucky was a “border state” in the Civil War, being a slave state that never seceded from the Union.  Kentucky declared itself neutral, but a Confederate capital was established at Bowling Green.  Hart County is the location of the first Civil War Monument in the nation, erected in 1861.

Over 20,000 Native American archaeological sites exist in Kentucky, ranging from burial mounds to rock art to seasonal camps and caves. 

Mammoth Cave National Park is the longest recorded cave system in the world.  There are over 360 miles of cave that have been mapped.
